Creating with Gouache Workshop
Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:00AM

Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts
321 Arsenal Street
Watertown, MA 02472

Gouache, a water-based paint often referred to as opaque watercolor, is known for its rich tones velvety, matt finish and its freshness. Gouache is versatile, dries quickly and it is easy to use. This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn the basics. It will cover the paint, tools and paper that are needed to start exploring the medium. Through different exercises students will learn that gouache is easy to work with, forgiving, can be layered and behaves like watercolor when used with more water or it can mimic oil paint when used with less water. Students will be introduced to color mixing, adding white and black to create different tints and shades. Washes, mark making, line work and layering will also be covered. In addition, students will be able to choose from a few different projects while learning and experimenting with gouache paint. This workshop is for anyone who is new to the medium or has some experience but would like to expend their knowledge. *Materials for the workshop will be provided by the instructor.
