MANA – Music & Dance of the Philippines & Hawai’i Featuring Kayamanan Ng Lahi with Patrick Landeza, Abe Lagrimas, Jr.

Kayamanan Ng Lahi celebrates its 25th anniversary year in the Aratani World Series. Under the leadership of Joel Jacinto, Barbara Ele and Ave Jacinto, Kayamanan is one of the most distinguished Philippine Dance company in the US. Their new program MANA will premiere in the Aratani and then go on, by invitation, to the 2015 Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo, Hawaii.

In collaboration with Filipino-Americans Patrick Landeza (Slack Key Guitarist) and Abe Lagrimas Jr. (Ukelele), MANA speaks to the ancestral ties between Filipino and Hawaiian culture. The concept of “mana” comes from the shared lexicon of the Pacific and Southeast Asian region. In the Philippines, “mana” refers to the precious things learned and inherited from ancestors, in Hawai’i “mana” is the spiritual energy that can exist in places, objects and persons. In this new production, Kayamanan Ng Lahi speaks to the shared spirit of mana that is within us all, defining and strengthening us as keepers of our heritage and cultural heirlooms.
