An Earth Day Music Celebration with Pyeng, Morley and hattie gossett

This special concert celebrating Earth Day begins with Real Time Jazz Band, under the leadership of Mark Bonifacio.  Real Time Jazz is a celebrated new quintet that performs easy-to-remember original melodies by contemporary jazz musicians, with drums, sax, piano, guitar and bass.  Real Time plays jazz for the 21st Century.

Following Real Time Jazz Band is the eminent Indie Jazz Afro Groove Vocalist/Songwriter Pyeng Threadgill and Band, performing her Songlines Project in honor of Earth Day 2013, and music by Chaka Khan and Joni Mitchell. (Pyeng is the daughter of jazz sax legend Henry Threadgill and Urban Bush Women dancer/choreographer Christina Jones.)  Special guest musician Morley performs her soul/funk brand of music. And cultural historian, poet, spoken word artist hattie gossett brings forth words&words&words for the page & the stage & the e-screen & the disc. Hattie is the author of presenting sister noblues (firebrand) and the immigrant suite: hey xenophobe! Who you calling a foreigner? (7 stories press). Hattie is celebrating her 71st year.

Beginning the kickoff to her Pledge Music fundraiser to complete her fourth album Songlines, Pyeng Threadgill is joined by Justin Purtill (electric guitar), Ben Wright (electric bass) and Kassa Overall (drums). Pyeng is a 2008 recipient of the New York Foundation for The Arts fellowship in music composition and has headlined at the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, ISIM (International Society for Improvised Music) Conference at William Patterson College, Yoshi's, Hudson Opera House, Rockwood Music Hall and more.

Canned food donations can be made to City Harvest at the door.
