New Dances of the League of David is a piano suite that mingles short works by leading American composers (including Augusta Read Thomas, Gabriel Kahane, Caroline Shaw, and Marcos Balter) with the youthful masterwork, Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6 by Robert Schumann. The New York Times raved: “‘New Dances’ is no gimmick… it was fascinating to hear Schumann through the ears of these perceptive, stylistically varied contemporary composers... Mr. Kaplan played Schumann’s score and the new contributions to it with command, elegance and character.”
