Join us before the screening of The Met: Live in HD – Verdi’s Il Trovatore for a reception and special presentation by composer Victoria Bond about writing contemporary opera. The program is an inside look at composing in the 21st century with Victoria Bond and librettist Barbara Zinn Krieger. A preview of Dr. Bond’s original opera about Clara Schumann will include scenes performed by the two lead singers, Meredith Mecum and Benjamin Bloomfield as Clara and Robert Schumann. Victoria Bond leads a dual career as composer and conductor. Her work has received wide acclaim including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Bond has been commissioned by major orchestras, opera and dance companies worldwide. She has served as Exxon/Arts Endowment Conductor with the Pittsburgh Symphony and has guest conducted throughout the United States, Europe, South America and China. Scenes from Bond’s opera Mrs. President were performed by the New York City Opera as part of their VOX series and the complete opera was produced by Anchorage Opera in October 2012. Victoria Bond is currently Principal Guest Conductor of Chamber Opera Chicago and a frequent pre-concert lecturer for the New York Philharmonic.
