My Son is a Splendid Driver is inspired by the 1950’s American classic PICNIC written by William Inge. It is conceived as a love letter to a ghost. This love letter is part seance and part ghost story, and it’s intended to be a meditation on failure. Driver locates the ghost in me and reaches out to the ghost of Inge. My hope is that we will find a place in his work to exist together. A place where my queering of his play will be a gift for both of us.
