Originally written by Edmond Rostrand in 1897, Cyrano de Bergerac is a heartwarming, swashbuckling, and overall enormously fun story about a man with an unusually large nose and a penchant for adventure. Although Cyrano falls in love with the beautiful Roxane, he cannot bring himself to court her because he believes he is destined for a life alone. Instead, he is forced to content himself with writing Roxane letters on behalf of the beautiful but vapid Christian and the two fall in love. Cyrano is written after the theatrical style of the 1600s and follows Cyrano's quest for love and the perfect rhyme in five acts, much like the plays of William Shakespeare. Despite its end with Cyrano's untimely and tragic death, Cyrano is a comedy at heart, and it deserves the best rendition we can give it.
