Do the Blind Dream? by Barry Gifford is a play based on
his short story of the same title, an “intimate, stylistically daring
examination of the darkest secrets in the history of an Italian family”. As
the family gathers for the funeral of their matriarch, we become acquainted
with their jealousies, rivalries and secrets. Does anyone, sighted or not,
see the truth of daily events? To paraphrase the poet Delmore Schwartz, in dreams reside responsibilities. The presentation on June 8 at The Players Theatre black box will be a staged reading in advance of the show’s world- premiere with playwright Barry Gifford in person for a Q&A following, moderated by prolific American writer David Bar Katz. “I love Do the Blind Dream?--a wonderful and delightful piece that tastes of Buñuel and Cocteau.” -- Pedro Almodóvar"
