The Red Room
A new play by Morgan McGuire
Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 2:00PM

The TBG Theatre
312 W 36th Street
3rd Floor
New York, NY 10018

The Hodges have gathered at a family house in the northern reaches of California. As the sentencing of their son and brother’s murderer nears, questions of justice and forgiveness arise and the family seeks to sift through what has been lost.

THE RED ROOM by Morgan McGuire explores the intersection between survivors and the reality of the American judicial system. How do we move forward after violent loss? What is justice and can what was lost be restored? Is there a role for forgiveness? McGuire pulls at the threads of these questions, showing the tension borne by each, and how each has the power to unravel the very fabric of family.

SPECIAL EVENT: The Shelter will be hosting a special talkback after our performance on Sunday, 7/17. Our guest panel will discuss topics explored in the play, such as violence, punitive versus restorative justice, and the role of forgiveness. The talkback will be moderated by Zac Martin, founder of Trellis and pastor at Trinity Grace. Panelists will include playwright Morgan McGuire, as well as Bishop Darrell Ferguson, a Baptist pastor, and Eric Manson, a formerly incarcerated mentor and advocate.
