Donaghy Theatre

The Oscar-nominated writer of the worldwide bestseller Room returns to Irish Arts Center to read from her rivering new masterpiece The Wonder.

Emma Donoghue again delves into the emotional life of a child with an intimate and mysterious tale of two strangers and how they change each others' lives forever. Set in 1850s rural Ireland and written with all of the propulsive tension that made Room a huge bestseller, The Wonder tells of Anna, a girl who has stopped eating but mysteriously remains alive, and Lib, the English nurse charged with observing Anna. This powerful psychological thriller is a searing examination of faith, doubt forgiveness, and love pitted against evil.

Born in Dublin in 1969, Emma Donoghue is an Irish emigrant twice over: she spent eight years in Cambridge doing a PhD in eighteenth century literature before moving to London, Ontario. She migrates between genres, writing for screen, stage, and radio as well as historical and contemporary novels and short stories. her other books include Frog Music, Astray, The Sealed Letter and Slammerkin.
