This introductory class is intended for the student who has no experience with either the flute or Irish Traditional music. We will take the first steps forward together, with the goal of giving you the strong foundation necessary to progress toward better understanding of both the instrument and style of music. We will start with how to produce a good sound, and then tackle the scales and rhythms essential to constructing traditional melodies. By the end of the semester we will have covered one traditional tune in each of the major categories common in Irish Music including a march, waltz, polka, jig, and finally the king of all tune types known as the reel. A flute pitched in the key of D is required for this class.

This class requires an instrument.
