This class is for those who have some familiarity with the flute, and with music in general. Having a good understanding of the production of tone and playing traditional melodies is a base that we will build upon throughout the semester. We will continue to focus on basic flute techniques: breathing, articulation, and the aspect that most brings this music to life: ornamentation. Additionally, students will work on strengthening skills of listening and picking up tunes by ear as we will concentrate on how to analyze and repeat examples of playing from recordings that have been slowed down. A flute pitched in the Key of D is required for this class.
