"If you double-click on an icon that says: VILLA, click-click, a description comes up of everything that actually happened to her in the villa. Click. Who she hugged. Click. Who she spoke to. Click. Who she helped. If you Click click on an icon that says: THE ROAD NOT TAKEN, you see what the family and friends think would have happened if nothing had happened to her. If she’d never been in the villa."

This slyly surprising and gripping play puts us in the room with three women charged with deciding the future of the Villa Grimaldi, an infamous detention camp during the Pinochet regime. Guillermo Calderon is Chile’s preeminent contemporary writer/director. His bracing plays lace playful humor and breathtaking flashes of stagecraft into humanity’s most troubling issues.

Villa is about how people reclaim their country after brutality inflicted by the state – how they literally reclaim sites of terror and transform them into places of ongoing memory. How do we walk the path from remembrance to renewal? How do we use painful collective memory to move forward as a country?
