Off the Page staged readings are the first step in developing a Word for Word production—taking a short story from the page to the stage. For this installment we are reading "Back of Beyond" by Ron Rash, from his Southern Appalachian short stories collection, Burning Brighty. The story is a portrait of rural desperation, a place beyond traditional America, and a window on a world which has shaped our present.
