17CU1: BHM, The (R)EVOLUTION will not be Televised: The History of Black Fashion and Magic
Friday, February 24, 2017 at 7:30PM

Roone Arledge Auditorium
Lerner Hall
Morningside Campus
New York, NY 10027

Our event The (R)EVOLUTION will not be Televised: The History of Black Fashion and Magic aims to explore the history of Black fashion through the lens of music and how this medium has helped shape style and fashion sense, specifically during times of revolution in the Black community. This year’s fashion show will be a historical showcase of Black fashion throughout the times, commencing with the Harlem Renaissance and ending with the present age. The Black Heritage Month Fashion Show is multi-faceted. Beyond being an opportunity for us to host a show for our peers in modeling and showcasing their talents in that capacity, it is also an opportunity for students to enjoy a show curated by a demographic that is often overlooked for their contributions to American and mainstream culture. Black culture is very much rooted and influential in popular culture, thus the fashion show will chronicle the different eras of Black fashion that have come, gone, and reemerged throughout the course of our history.
