Isabel is a modern young woman who lives alone and works in a book shop in Manhattan's Lower East Side. When she is not pining after a handsome author, she is visiting her Her irascible grandmother (Bubbe) and her friend the matchmaker have found a "good catch" for Isabel, Sam, the pickle vendor. Meanwhile Isabel is pining for a handsome author who has finally noticed her and her work. Cultures clash as Isabel wrestles with following tradition vs. following her heart.
