The greatest challenge for actors is BOOKING THE JOB! There are so many elements to being cast in a project that are out of the actor’s control: you’re too tall, too short, too blonde, etc. These are things that we can’t change, but there is one thing actors can and need to control… how we perform in the audition room! Insecurities and nerves can dominate an actor’s thoughts and therefore block the ability to focus on the thoughts of the character they are auditioning for. To combat this common pitfall this class will introduce students to the “Thought Method” where an actor breaks down what their character is thinking from moment to moment in order to stop having “actor” thoughts i.e. how good or bad of a job you are doing. We are always thinking. Our thoughts inform how we speak. Try and say “hello”, when your thought is “I hate you!” Now say it with the thought “I love you.” They sound different don’t they? And were you thinking about how you were saying it?

This class will focus on TV and Film while being specific about genre, as your thoughts will be different for a three camera 1/2 hour comedy, than for a 1 hour drama. And because your audition begins the second you walk into the room, this class also works with your natural energy and body language so that you can make the best impression possible. Auditioning is an art and like any art there needs to be healthy mix of organic honesty and technical skill. Remember there are many reasons why you may not book the job, don’t let YOU be one of them!
