Tchaikovsky had great respect for the conventions
of writing for ballet, but his ballet scores, of which
Swan Lake was the first, are also masterpieces of
orchestral writing. Of course, the ballet was meant
to accompany the power of the music which is often
subsumed in the beauty of the dance. This concert
will provide an opportunity to enjoy this music for its
own sake.
With his revolutionary score, The Rite of Spring,
Igor Stravinsky created an unforgettable musical
panorama of primitive Russia and its intimate
and sometimes savage relationship with nature.
Maestro David LaMarche, the highly acclaimed
conductor of the world renowned American Ballet
Theatre, brings the experience of countless
performances with the most famous ballet dancers
of our time to create his own unique interpretation
of these great works.
