FairPlé | Gender Balance in Irish Traditional & Folk Music

Founded in 2018, FairPlé is a movement that aims to achieve gender balance in the production, performance, promotion, and development of Irish traditional and folk music. It advocates for equal opportunity and artistic excellence. FairPlé Day is an international collective action set in the first weekend in June that will inspire conversation about equality and fair practice, and celebrate the richness of our music.

FairPlé: New York is one of many concerts that will take place in Ireland and the US to support this action. The performers on the night will include Katie Linnane (fiddle), Ivan Goff (uilleann pipes), Maeve Gilchrist (harp), Dan Gurney (button accordion), Christina Dolphin (flute), Maeve Flanagan (fiddle), Jenna Nicholls (singer), and Brendan O’Shea (singer). We encourage supporters of gender equality and lovers of traditional and folk music to join us in this creative show of support.

The founders of FairPlé include singers and musicians Karan Casey, Padraigín Ní Uallacháin, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Niamh Parsons, Niamh Dunne, Pauline Scanlon, Niamh Ní Charra, Síle Denvir, and Úna Monaghan.
