A straight rodeo champion seeks redemption for past actions by coaching a group of bullied LGBT high school students in the state's rodeo competition.

In a small Western town, National Rodeo Champion and local hero Chad Raines returns home to his father’s ranch after a bull riding accident to contemplate the end of his career. Father and son are tormented by the loss of Chad's mother and also brother, whose cries for help went unanswered until it was too late. Chad turns to booze and pain pills as a means to cope.

Chad reluctantly agrees to coach the local high school Gay Straight Alliance to prepare them for a rodeo which pits high school brothers; Toby, the president of the GSA and Mark, the president of the Rodeo club are at odds with each other. Toby seeks respect and Mark has taken part in the bullying of the teens of the GSA. Chad finds himself between the brother's squabble which began when Toby came out and labeled a betrayer by his brother and Rodeo Club. The town divides, just as the brothers have and Chad caves to pressure and quits the team. After a show of true grit by the GSA, he relents and honors the memory of his brother who was thrown out of the family ranch resulting in loneliness and suicide. All culminates in a showdown, during the finals, as the bull riding competition heats up and the town watches.
