Celebrate Black History Month with this powerful performance of African American spirituals. Leading the audience along the Underground Railroad through storytelling, the actors will illuminate the secret codes used by those who traversed the Railroad and explain the importance of the era’s songs. The Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh will open the show with works by contemporary African American composers and will join the adult choir for the final song, a rousing rendition of “Go Down Moses.” The show’s cast will include internationally acclaimed operatic soprano Elisabeth Stevens, as well as bass Gregg Baker, known for his commanding voice and a favorite of the Pittsburgh Symphony, and native Pittsburgher, tenor Donovan Elliot Smith, now touring internationally.
