Based on the playwright’s own experience with their father, Your Own Kind of Normal is an intimate portrayal of schizophrenia, queerness and healing. A re-embodying of the memories most crucial for a child’s understanding of their relationship with their father. The father’s mental health and the child’s queerness sometimes come into conflict. Their memories take center stage, as the child attempts to reconcile the pain and hurt they caused each other. Both the father and the child learn how to integrate each other’s realities into their own.
