Writing for Performance with Heidi Kraay
Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 6:30PM
801 S Capitol Blvd
Writing is a physical act. Especially when writing for performance, we can access the full body as well as the mind. Understanding a performer’s vocabulary can unlock our voices as writers, especially as writers for stage/screen/song. In this workshop for writers across disciplines, we’ll investigate our fundamental curiosities, collecting material from our daily experiences, observations and memory as we build a new work for performance – be it poetry, song, dance, film, theater, performance art or something new/undefined.
Much of our time will consist of experimenting with form and physical/tactile/sensory/ avenues to generate new material and build a larger piece. Each of us will develop what we make in order to move our writing process and artistic practice forward, culminating in a final revised piece that is ready for the next step – or leap. Note: beyond reading, writing and sharing, we may move and use the space around us. Be prepared to get out of your comfort zone, but also wear comfy clothes that allow easy movement.
