SYNOPSIS

“Nutria” may read like a new item available at your local green grocer, but in fact it’s a 20-pound South American invasive rat species eroding an already vulnerable southern Louisiana coastline. These enormous rodents consume a destructive amount of vegetation essential to hurricane-driven flood protection, and Delacroix Island is at the front of an escalating battle to preserve a rapidly diminishing culture dependent on endangered natural resources. Delacroix shrimpers and trappers, alongside New Orleans musicians, chefs, and fashion designers come together to tell the tale of the nutria’s weird impact.
