The war is over, and Ezra Mannon is dead. His son Orin returns home, wounded from battle, to grieve, and finds himself caught between his mother, Christine, and sister, Lavinia. Lavinia tries to tell Orin that their mother poisoned their father so she could run away with her lover, Captain Adam Brant. Orin, infatuated with his mother, refuses to believe Lavinia. However, forced to confront the fact of his father’s death and the collapse of his family, he starts to question his mother’s story. Upon learning the truth, Orin vows to help Lavinia avenge the death of their father, no matter the consequence. Our production explores what happens immediately after loss, how space and place are inextricably tied to memory and mourning. *This production contains a depiction of suicide.
