Spring Concert: Historically Speaking
Musical Romp Thru Gay Culture
Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 3:00PM
St Mark's United Methodist Church
100 N St Rd 46 Bypass
Where does LGBTQ+ culture come from? How did gay men and women find their voice in the cultural fabric of the Western World? Where did some of the iconic images, idols, and colors originate?
The Quarryland Men's Chorus will become the teachers and you the student as they present music which explores, educates, and entertains. The audience will be taken from the mind of the first "gay man," through our modern history up to the present-day status of a culture in search of an appropriate way to assimilate without losing their unique customs and conventions.
Many original works by acclaimed Tony-Award nominated lyricist Michael Korie will be presented to illuminate gay history, as well as very identifiable works such as "YMCA" and "Firework." How best to teach about gay history than through music?
