----------MUKHAGNI ----------
Created by SHAYOK MISHA CHOWDHURY & KAMERON NEAL
---------- ABOUT THE SHOW ----------
Mukhagni is a living will. A memoir in process. An automythography. Two queer colored lovers fumble toward the question: what happens to our bodies after we die? Ashes pollute rivers; buried bodies take up real estate. What are our material afterlives? We think we have ideas. We think we can build things. But we're just meat. We're just so soft.
SHAYOK MISHA CHOWDHURY & KAMERON NEAL are members of Ars Nova’s Makers Lab.
---------- ABOUT THE ARTISTS ----------
SHAYOK MISHA CHOWDHURY and KAMERON NEAL are a Brooklyn-based team bringing theater and visual art into intimate dialogue. They create through 3D writing, a muscular process rooted in the tactility of materials and the expressive contours of the body. Together, they have developed work at New York Theatre Workshop, Ars Nova, Vox Populi, the Vineyard Arts Project, and the ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance at Williams College.
MISHA is a queer Bengali director, writer, and maker who looks to performance as the art of embodied inquiry. As a Director-in-Residence at The Drama League, Misha is currently developing Beast Thing, with Aleshea Harris, and Speech, with Scott Sheppard and Saori Tsukada. In the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, he is co-creating rasgos asiaticos with Virginia Grise; he will direct the premiere at CalArts Center for New Performance in 2020. Misha is also a Resident Director at The Flea, where he is directing Mac Wellman’s Bad Penny this fall. He was a recent 2050 Fellow at New York Theater Workshop. Other credits include: Your Healing Is Killing Me (PlayMakers Rep); How the White Girl Got Her Spots and Other 90s Trivia (ANT Fest); Inhume (SPACE on Ryder Farm); Artemis in the Parking Lot (NYMF); and The Messiah Complex (HERE Arts Center). A recipient of fellowships from Fulbright, Kundiman, and the Provincetown Fine Arts Workcenter, Misha’s poetry has been published in The Cincinnati Review, TriQuarterly, Asian American Literary Review, and elsewhere. He is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Williams College Department of Theatre. MFA: Columbia. shayokmishachowdhury.com

His self-portrait Liquid Love was awarded Best of Show at Digital Graffiti Festival, where he was a 2018 artist-in-residence, and his diptych Groundwater Vol. I & II was recently featured in the New Orleans Film Festival. Kameron’s newest piece Kale Salad, commissioned by Ars Nova, can currently be seen on the ceiling of the lobby at The Greenwich House. His video work was featured in Rufus Wainwright's latest music video Sword of Damocles. Kameron has also developed and shown work at Blue Balls Festival, LaMama Galleria, the Harlem Arts Festival, the Cube Art Project, Outlet, the Type Director's Club, Soho Rep, Signature Theatre, and BAM. He has designed campaigns for The Public Theater, Joe's Pub, and Shakespeare in the Park, with Pentagram partner, Paula Scher. kameronneal.com
