music by Jerry Herman
book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee
based on The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux
as adapted by Maurice Valency
new version by David Thompson

The Countess Aurelia lives in the basement of a quaint bistro in 1940s Paris, driven mad,
reminiscing about her lost love. When oil is discovered beneath the streets of Paris, a group of
corporate presidents hatch a scheme to blow up the bistro and get at it. The Countess rallies the
denizens of the Paris fringe to foil their plot and exert a fitting punishment on the greedy execs.

Can beauty, nature, and art prevail against greed and ravenous industry? Will the doves ever
return
to Paris?

Jerry Herman, Jerome Lawrence, and Robert E. Lee reimagine Giraudoux’s,
The Madwoman of Chaillot as a musical with the kind of decadent and ebullient score that is Herman’s trademark.

This show is recommended for all audiences.
