This holiday season, Chicago Philharmonic turns up the heat at Harris Theater. Coleridge-Taylor’s settings of classic carols and Tchaikovsky’s traditional and elegant Christmas waltz lead into a Nutcracker with a difference. Duke Ellington’s 1960 jazz interpretations of Tchaikovsky’s beloved score will have the whole family dancing in the aisles. Then the “fearless” (Chicago Tribune) Marcus Roberts Trio bring their unique classical, jazz and witty improvisations to Gershwin’s beloved ode to “the young enthusiastic spirit of American life.” Young, and young-at-heart, will revel in the holiday spirit.
