BCT Presents
2019 Arts Start Up Seminar
Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10:30AM

Dimension Mill
642 N Madison St
Bloomington, IN 47404

Modeled on tech start up weekends, the Arts Start Up Seminar offers participants an opportunity to pitch and workshop their idea to both other dreamers and experienced event presenters. Networking with the individuals behind the events, festivals, and venues that make Bloomington the special place it is, the Arts Start Up begins with a brief review and training on how to pitch your idea - making a compelling case for why your event should become the next big thing.

Once we're ready, our local experts join the group for an organized lunch discussion where participants make contacts with music professionals, festival promoters, planning gurus, and marketing professionals. Next, pitches are made and the group as a whole chooses up to 3 new ideas to take from concept to business plan in the course of the afternoon. Everyone benefits from going through the rigorous process of questioning, investigating, researching, and pivoting to make the idea the best it can be.

The content of the three preliminary workshops is not duplicated in the seminar. Workshop attendance is not required to participate in the seminar. Those who complete the seminar are eligible to submit an event proposal to the Arts Start Up Fund, which provides support for promising ideas in the form of further coaching and development, possibly along with rent-free use of the BCT or the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center. Proposals will be due on March 31, 2020 for events starting after Sept 1, 2020.

This workshop runs 10:30am - 5:30pm. Lunch is provided for all seminar participants and registration is requested by Friday, November 8th.

More information about the Arts Start Up Seminar, and the BCT’s Educational Workshop Series can be found on the BCT’s website.

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater also offers occasional Technical Theatre Training workshops.
