The International Human Rights Art Festival signature event is a week-long series of advocacy art and performances at the intersection of art, spirit and society. As the Sufis say: "Words spoken from the mouth never get past the ears; but words spoken from the heart, enter the heart." Our 100+ artists presenting 40 individual performance events are speaking loudly and clearly from their hearts!

GOOD MOTHER (PERFORMANCE)

KKaren Cellini: Good Mother, through an intimate poetic landscape, Glow in the Dark Mary reveals a phantasmagorical world of kaleidoscopic memories guided by moonlight on water. Karen Cellini is a live performance collage artist experimenting with text, sound, and media in the vibrational, psychological and emotional landscape. She has performed locally at Joe’s Pub, LaMama, and Dixon Place. Karen’s work includes: The Good Mother Manifesto, Her Soul Bled with Sorrow, and Quill House, performed in last year’s IHRAF festival. She starred in Dynasty and later co-produced the iconic Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding, Doctor Zhivago on Broadway, among other plays and films. A semi-finalist for HERE’s HARP residency, Karen has also received Storefront Artist and Parson’s Place residencies and a NET Grant. Mentors include Meredith Monk and Carl Hancock Rux. Collaborators: Meryl Joseph (director, award-winning filmmaker, production designer, visual artist); Gabrielle Senza (international visual and performing artist, activist, multi-media creative researcher).
