The Columbia edition of the NYC International Human Rights Art Festival, co-organized by CU Amnesty International and Ratrock Magazine, will be held on November 15th at the Lerner BlackBox Theater. It will feature student performances related to human rights issues and social concerns - including dance, theater, poetry, music, stand-up comedy - which will be introduced by speeches of inspiring individuals: Christelle Ownu, the African Diaspora Lead Advisor at the NYC Commission on Human Rights, Marissa Guitierrez, the Founder and Executive Director of Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE), Tom Block, the Founding Producer of the IHRAF and Ana Chen, Founder and Editor-in-chief of the magazine It's Real. The show will include performances by Alex White (SEAS’21, stand-up comedian), Mamadou Yattassaye (CC’21 ,poet and musician), Charlie Blanc (GS’20, dancer), the South Asian fusion dance group TAAL, the Jewish A Capella Group Pizmon and a play written by Phanesia Pharell (BC’21) and directed by Isaac Jaffar (CC’18). Free for Columbia-Barnard Students, $5 for other students and $15 for outside guests.
