Founded in 2013 by Boston Public Schools theatre teacher and lighting designer Daniel Jentzen, Brighter Boston’s mission is to guide teenagers to discover meaningful work and personal success through life-changing paid professional internships in the event production industry. Brighter Boston is the only organization in the region exclusively focused on providing skills training and job placement to underserved youth in the entertainment industry. Brighter Boston interns are provided with: A minimum 100 hour, paid internship with some of the best production companies and venues in the Boston area; an on-site professional mentor; and, career development and networking. Interns have worked with over 22 producing organizations including on shows for LL Cool J, Lucy Liu, Pax East, and Wynton Marsalis. Brighter Boston sits at the intersection of workforce development and the arts, with a focus on positioning young people where some of the most meaningful learning happens - the workplace. In March 2019 Brighter Boston hired Ann Sousa as the Executive Director to take over leadership and management of the nonprofit organization, marking an important step in the evolution of the organization, moving from start up to growth.
