Learn the basics of both Improv and Ensemble in this fun and lively class! Topics covered include: embracing the “strong and wrong,” staying present, listening, and finding radical agreement. We also teach the framework of scenic structure, and take a good long look at creating “the where.”
This class is as much about learning basic improv techniques as it is about creating a new ensemble through shared learning and experience. The final class ends in an invited showing of what we have been working on.
No previous improv or theater training required.
Ages 18 and up. Class size cap: 16. Please note that the venue is 2nd floor walk up without elevator access at this time.
Cancellation Policy 75% refund before the first day of class. 50% refund before the second class. No refunds after you take the second class. Sorry, we cannot prorate any portion of the class. Brooklyn Improv Training (BIT) teaches ensemble improv: the skills of spontaneously creating, as a group, a single piece of work. Drawing from the wisdom of Viola Spolin, Keith Johnstone, Del Close, and also from 15 years of improv teaching experience in NYC and beyond, the BIT approach is experiential, on your feet, and full of joy. We teach letting go of judgment, how to stay present, how to embrace the “strong and wrong,” and many other practical strategies to create hilarious, delightful scene work with an ensemble of players. Our goal is not to teach you how to be the funniest person in the room, it’s to make the whole room funnier. All classes are 18 and up.
