Disrupting the Frame in Liberty City and San Antonio

This workshop will be led by Robert Pluma, Ann Bennett, Katja Esson, and Simone Salvo. Robert Pluma will share his project “Hidden Histories of San Antonio”, a reclamation of the identity and narrative of his indigenous ancestors’ stories, countering colonial narratives of what is now southern Texas through the use of augmented reality, mesmerizing slow-motion images, and recorded oral histories shared by mission descendants. Ann Bennett will share their process creating a VR piece that accompanies their film Razing Liberty Square, directed by Academy Award® nominated filmmaker, Katja Esson, which explores the effects of climate change and the resulting climate gentrification of the redevelopment of a historic African American public housing project in Miami. Facilitated by Simone Salvo (Magnum Foundation), participants will learn how these lens-based artists have worked in immersive media and will map a non-linear narrative by hand.
