How does intentional word choice radiate change? In this workshop, we explore how everyday speech constructs a story about what is possible and how we can use our words to reprogram our thoughts and actions. We will experiment with how to use word choice to directly enter the worlds that we dream of and what that might look like.

Part personal sharing, part collective brainstorming, Leila will share the evolution of their strategy to build new language, from creating “Stock Images of War,” a film in VR about surviving sexual assault, to creating “Climate Correction,” a climate word-replacement browser extension. Together, we will discuss the stories embedded in our current word choice and collaborate on creating world-shifting alternatives. Framed by emergent strategy, behavioral science, and the unknowable ways change occurs, we will discuss our communal agency to coauthor the logic of the world and the necessity that we do so.
