The Man Who Doesn’t Exist a show about gender, grief, and the size of my penis written and performed by Josephine Simple directed by Ryan William Downey April 18, 19, 25, 26 8pm at The Brick Big Blurb Fifteen years ago I desperately wanted to have a small penis. Three years ago my best friend died. This is the real story of how those two things are related, and how I realized I was trans. I’ve dug into my heart and found a goo made from the things that hurt the most. It’s funny and bouncy and I put it on stage for you, because the next time you ask yourself “what does it mean to be me?” or “what is dying?” you deserve to have a funny goof to think about that will make you feel less alone. Little Blurb Fifteen years ago I desperately wanted to have a small penis. Three years ago my best friend died. This is the real story of how those two things are related, and how I realized I was trans. I hope we can come together for one night to think about death. I love you. Bio Josephine Simple is a writer (The New Yorker, Slate, and more), performer (the PIT, the UCB, and more), street dancer (the Mutant$, ARTimals), and marketing consultant (Kantar). Their performances combine comedy, street dance, fake philosophy, and clowning. Zen monks have described Simple’s highly-physical works as “total mind body transformation” and “Is it still comedy if it kind of breaks your heart?” Ryan William Downey (King) is an actor, playwright, and musician who serves as Associate Artistic Director of The Brick and co-director of Title:Point, an experimental theater company that have been creating original productions for more than a decade in New York City, including New York Times Critc's Pick Sleeping Car Porters which Downey wrote. He is also a curator and producer for the Exponential Festival, a co-founder of Vital Joint, and a member of Brooklyn drug-punk band Chat Logs. His voice can be heard inhabiting numerous characters on Pokemon film and television series.
