BNW Rep will live stream a reading of The Plantation: The Cherry Orchard, 1870 which enjoyed successful productions on Governors Island in 2016 and 2017, and was lauded by the New York Times as “urgently relevant.”

Faithful to Chekhov’s text about freed serfs in Russia and the disintegration of the Russian aristocracy, The Plantation examines the root causes of racial injustice in America when freed slaves gained education, employment, property and held public office in the Southern States, including two African American men in Congress, before Jim Crow Laws sowed seeds of racism that would cripple African American advancement for almost a century.
