Contain Yourself! Microtheater Workshop

Instructor: Sarah Nolen

Format: Online class over ZOOM

Cost per household: $20 ($15 members)

Learn how to transform everyday containers into complete theatrical worlds through the magic of microtheater. This class is a whirlwind introduction to the building methods and performance techniques used to create astonishing miniature shows with at-home materials. After introducing global traditions such as Teatro Lambe Lambe (Brazil) and the many variations of Toy Theater, puppeteer Sarah Nolen will perform and discuss "Can’t Stop the Pot," her technically sophisticated fairy tale built inside of an oatmeal container. Participants will learn how to draw inspiration from objects and at-home materials while getting tips on how to visualize, prototype, rehearse, and refine potential stories, characters, and scenery. Sarah will also share steps for exploratory craft projects to jumpstart your creativity.

The class will be 90 minutes of demonstration with 30 minutes Q&A. All ages, youth through adult, are welcome.
