Sketches that Say Something with Monique Moses
Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 7:00PM

Washington, DC 20009

You might have a great sketch idea that engages with social, racial or economic commentary but feel uncertain if the comedy will land. The stakes often feel higher. This workshop will help give you some tools and techniques for making sure your sketch material is on the mark.

As a member of Astronomy Club, the long running, all black comedy troupe whose sketch shows (Netflix, Comedy Central) and improv shows (UCB, Let's Talk About Race Baby) run the gamut between absurdist comedy and wry social commentary, Monique is able to provide lessons learned for tackling this material through personal and professional experience. She will spend the first half hour of the workshop presenting concepts for weaving social commentary into sketch comedy, then participants will pitch pre-formed sketch ideas and receive feedback through a sketch writer's room experience. At the end, participants will leave with the tools to write a fully formed sketch from their ideas, and hopefully, will continue to develop material that 'says something' using both funny AND thoughtful commentary.
