Ari Axelrod
A Celebration of Jewish Broadway
Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 8:00PM

Skokie Theatre
7924 Lincoln Ave
Skokie, IL 60077

“A Celebration of Jewish Broadway” honors the songs and stories of Jewish composers and their contributions to the American Musical. Beloved melodies and lyrics by the likes of Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Schwartz, and Carole King will transport the audience back to the streets of the theatre district, your bubbie’s Shabbos table, or your corner of the sky.

This show melds great American music with Ari’s charm and talent, all the while focusing on the deeper subject of Judaism. In discussing the contributions to the American musical theater of Irving Berlin, Jerry Herman, Cole Porter, Bock & Harnick, Stephen Schwartz, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jason Robert Brown, and The Gershwin’s, Axelrod illustrates the heavy underlying presence of Jewish culture, including the inherent struggles that come with the faith. Axelrod is the new wave of cabaret creator, and he is here to celebrate, investigate, and illuminate.

This show has had three sold-out performances at the historic Birdland Jazz Club, one of which featured six-time Emmy & Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh, as well as sold-out performances in St. Louis, Chicago, Boca Raton, Ann Arbor, and via Zoom during COVID. In 2020, Ari received a MAC Award nomination for Best Male Vocalist with his work on this particular show, and won the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Live Zoom Performance of "A Celebration of Jewish Broadway."
