This holiday season, Shakespeare & Company presents a costumed, staged reading of The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley, featuring the many familiar characters of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, as well as some new faces.

A companion to Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley – the first Jane Austen-inspired production staged at Shakespeare & Company in 2017 – The Wickhams takes place at the estate of Elizabeth and Darcy, entering the servants’ quarters of Pemberley at the height of holiday preparations.

A no-nonsense housekeeper, a spirited new maid, and a lovesick, enterprising footman see their work interrupted by a stream of guests from upstairs, including an unexpected late-night visit from George Wickham, Lydia’s rogue of a husband and Mr. Darcy’s sworn enemy.

Whether upstairs or downstairs, the residents are able to explore the confines of class and discover the warmth of family and the generosity of forgiveness in this charming spin-off of the classic 19th century Jane Austen novel. According to Broadway World, The Wickhams is “a play for everyone,” and “an outing that is sure to boost the holiday spirit.”
