A Shot in the Dark is a series of mixed media photographs that enlists objects and images from worlds both physical and digital. The work derives from observations of the precarious nature of materiality and grappling with matters of temporality and perception, combining analog processes of silver gelatin printing and multiple exposures with digital processes of printing and editing to derive abstract forms of nature and light. Douglas Breault works as an interdisciplinary artist, frequently overlapping elements from photography, painting, sculpture, and video. His work has been included in exhibitions and screenings at several institutions including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Bristol Art Museum, and the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts.

“A Shot in the Dark” will be installed in the fall of 2022 as a solo exhibition at Nearby Gallery in Newton, MA.
