Behind the Curtain at Shakespeare & Company
Free Talk #1 Romeo and Juliet
Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 10:30AM

Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre
70 Kemble Street
Lenox, MA 01240

Romeo and Juliet’s classic text presents issues of love, loyalty, and responsibility – all of which play differently to different audiences. This installment of Behind the Curtain will examine how design elements – particularly costume design – can influence audience response to a production, delving into key moments and setting the stage for Shakespeare & Company Costume Director Govane Lohbauer to offer visual examples from the Costume Department’s vast selection.

Romeo and Juliet is currently being performed on stages across New England, New York, and Pennsylvania by the Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare, and will appear as a sensory-friendly performance at Shakespeare & Company on Saturday, March 25, and as an ASL (American SIgn Language)-assisted performance on Saturday, April 22. Both performances will be held at 2 p.m., at the Tina Packer Playhouse.
