The Mulberry Tree was written by Hanna Eady (born in Palestine) and Ed Mast (born in California) and brings a refreshingly nonpartisan and profoundly humanistic perspective to the history of the region. It is set in Palestinian village where Jews and Palestinians lived in harmony before the founding of Israel -- and details what happens in the aftermath, given subsequent political events.

Crafting a balanced and sympathetic portrayal of all sides, The Mulberry Tree focuses on one profound and telling friendship – that of a Palestinian boy, Noor and a village rabbi, Zakariah. It charts the causes and strain of the events of 1948 on all involved and reveals the intensely personal ramifications of the political forces that shaped the territory.

Playwrights Eady and Mast have collaborated on themes set in the Middle East since the late 1970s. Eady was born in Galilee. He and Mast live and work in Seattle.
