A death-row inmate facing imminent execution advocates for the life of a chimpanzee scheduled for vivisection. Reenacting the courtroom trial from solitary confinement, he becomes all the lawyers and witnesses who argued against releasing the chimp from medical captivity. An original puppet show about life or death and predatory behaviour, it’s also a personal journey for writer/director/performer Kevin Augustine-- his own family history of loss becoming part of the story. The People Vs Nature will daringly expand puppet show boundaries by inviting spectators to become Augustine’s co-puppeteers on stage-- communally giving life to sentient beings deserving of our deeper empathy.
