Telemachus is an unmoored young man, more child than adult; he is at a crossroads with no clear guide. However, that’s all about to change when he is brought out of his isolation, with divine assistance, into the wider world of politics, religion, and adventurous mythmaking. Oh, and Penelope, his mother, has something to say about it, too.
This is the Odyssey that modern audiences have never encountered before. Joseph is faithful to the story as written, but he has also infused the poem with his psyche in a dizzying meditation on the self, growing up, and one's place in the community.
This event will be Joseph’s first attempt at stringing together the first four books of Homer’s famous epic about coming home. It’s also his first experiment with the project's endurance aspect as he prepares to stage the entirety of the poem as a 24-hour performance.
TELEMACHUS will be 6 six hours long, including two intermissions, and performed mostly in Ancient Greek without subtitles, leaning instead on theatricality to illuminate the meaning.
The 6hour performance will be broken into the following sections:
Book I and II : 2 hrs
1st intermission: 30 min
Book III : 1hr 40mins
2nd intermission: 15 min
Book IV : 1hr 30mins
