EXCAVATE is an archaeological digging into Butoh dance process giving voice to new works in progress. EXCAVATE is raw, tangible, present, with dancer and audience existing on the same plane: No theatricalities.
With The Brick Theater as a developmental space, dancers dig deep into their awareness using the platform for testing the collaboration between the conscious and unconscious selves, guided by emptying into internal landscapes, imagery, source material, and/or sound.
EXCAVATE’s goal is to FOSTER production of new Butoh work, to CULTIVATE deeper connection WITHIN the Butoh community in Brooklyn and NYC and to allow Witnesses to INVESTIGATE Butoh and to EXCAVATE their own internal pathways through the act of observation: dancers in alternate states of being.
