Athanasia: Act I Staged Reading

Written & Directed by Jack Richman

Additional Lyrics and Book by Katie Nieto & Tim Burns

Additional Book by Ryan Jacobs

Music Direction & Additional Arrangements by Henry Roseman

Join us for a staged reading of Athanasia, a new sci-fi musical in development. Written and directed by Jack Richman, with additional lyrics and book by Katie Nieto and Tim Burns, and additional book by Ryan Jacobs, this early version of Athanasia offers a first look at the evolving work, showcasing its bold sci-fi storytelling, dynamic score, and thought-provoking themes.

This early presentation, music directed by Henry Roseman, features a talented cast of 15 including students from Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory, bringing this exciting new work to life.

Set in a distant future, Athanasia follows Dr. Eve Horowitz, a pioneering geneticist who awakens after a 200-year cryo-sleep in The Red City, a thriving Martian colony shaped by the very genetic research she started centuries ago. As she struggles to reconnect with her daughter, Hannah Horowitz, and adapt to a society driven by genetic perfection and strict conformity, Eve must confront the unintended consequences of her life's work. In a world that claims to have achieved immortality, she is faced with the ultimate questions: Where does she belong? And is it truly worth it to live forever?

Be among the first to experience this evolving musical as it takes shape in an evening of music, storytelling, and discovery.
