Intermediate Shortform for Longform Improvisers
Prerequisites: performers should already be comfortable with fundamental improv scenework skills. This workshop is perfect for experienced improvisers looking to get sharper, faster, and have more fun on stage.
In this 2.5-hr workshop presented in partnership with Malarkey Comedy, Robert Kalia Kapaku will be teaching the means, methods, and mayhem that create Chicago’s longest-running shortform improv show, ComedySportz. We’ll practice exercises and skills purpose-built to accelerate your brain and get to the fun faster.
What is shortform? Think Whose Line style games with structure and speed!
We’ll also learn how shortform skills and longform skills can go hand-in-hand to complement each other. Practicing shortform skills can help cultivate more satisfying longform improv, better improv auditions for all forms, and be a ton of fun!
BONUS- Every workshop registrant will receive a free ticket to the 6PM ComedySportz (normally $35) to see professional shortform in action!
ROBERT KALIA KAPAKU is a professional member of Malarkey’s ComedySportz Chicago and longform improvised Trapped in a Musical. He is also a member of Chicago’s Stir Friday Nights and was a 2024 Second City Victor Wong Fellow. He has studied and performed longform and shortform alike everywhere from Edinburgh Fringe Festival to Melbourne Australia and coast to coast across the US.
